ImmortALITY AND rELIGION
In religion, immortality is based upon the state of ones soul. It is often debated that when a human becomes immortal, their life unending. It is seen as if they have killed their material soul; and by sacrificing their soul they then are seen as evil. Different religions do have different views on immortality. “Immortal spirit is believed to be subject to a cycle of death and rebirth until it achieves union with Ultimate Reality”, is how religions such as Buddhism and Hinduism view immortality. While religions such as Islam, Judaism and Christianity see it slightly different. To the traditions of these religions “physical death is believed to be followed by a final judgement which determines the fate of the immortal soul for eternity.”
While in mythology, immortality is usually granted through a special food or drink in which is only available to the Gods, and no human can access it. For example, “ambrosia in classical mythology, amrita in Hindu tradition, and the golden apples tended by Freya in Norse myths”. Therefore this leaves the humans searching for a way to gain this immortality in which the Gods possess, this is often referred to as the “quest for physical immortality”. Other well-known myths include the Elixir of Life, when a person drinks it they become able to live for eternity. Or the Fountain of Youth which is a similar concept, “a spring which can restore health and youth, and give immortality to the drinker”.

iMMORTALITY IN tWILIGHT
In the Twilight series Bella, a human teenage girl who has fallen in love with a Vampire, yearns to become one of their kind so she too can be immortal and “live” happily ever after with Edward. Her quest is combination of the both the mythical; in order to become a Vampire she must be bitten and the venom from the bite will transform her, and the religious side; if she becomes a Vampire she will lose her human soul in her transition ultimately the venom will kill her soul.
Also in Twilight the Werewolves from the Quileute Tribe, are immortal. As long as the Vampires of the Cullen clan have a presence in Forks, they will not age and will be able to "shape shift" from their human form to wolf form. This because of the nature between the two groups, as long as Vampires are around the Quileute people it is the chosen few who can shift from one form to another to protect the tribe from this enemy.
