Twilight and religion
In the Twilight series Meyer's does seem to promote immortality through her storyline and her characters. We see Bella struggling to accept mortal life but excels when transformed into a Vampire, as an immortal being. During this struggle she's faced with many obstacles in which her immortal friends, both the Vampires and Werewolves/ Shape-shifters, help her through. We see both the good and the evil of the immortal world in which is a mirror of our mortal world. Just like the choices that these immortal beings are faced with, mortal beings have to face the same type of choices to do the right thing and make the right decision in our day-to-day lives. By glamouring up the typical image of a Vampire, the sparkling skin, and flawlessness of their appearance is so much more attractive then the typical description of a Vampire, a bloated being with a purple color of skin tone in which the audience can idolize and be drawn to the idea of immortality as a Vampire.
Even though the concept of immortality is commonly viewed as evil in religion there is more positive reviews from the religious communities on the Twilight series then negative ones. This is because of well known Christian themes such as facing and fighting temptation, love, and sacrifice. On top of these themes there are characters which are members of the Christian and other religious faiths, who practice and hold true to the beliefs of these religions. Even some of the immortal characters carry these traditions in which they had learned in their mortal lives into their immortal existence, for example Edwards need to marry Bella before he would both have sex with her and change her into a Vampire. While being changed into a Vampire before marriage isn't breaking one of the commandments from the Bible they are compared on the same level in Edwards mind.
